Introduction

All measurements are given in both metric (mm) and std (ft and inches).

The doghouse is 850mm (34") high x 800mm (32") wide x 1200mm (48") long.

It is constructed out of 150mm x 25mm (1"x6") boards for the floor and roof, 50mm x 50mm (2"x2") wood for the framing and skids and a sheet of 1200mm (48") x 2400mm (96") x 10mm (3/8") thick exterior type plywood for the walls.

A bit about the wood

If a dressed (smooth, surfaced, planed) wood is used, then the finished (actual) size of the wood will be less than the sizes given above. You will therefore need to make any necessary allowances.

Choose a wood that is suitable for outside applications.

Note: Some dogs gnaw on wood and some treated woods contain preservatives that can be toxic. If you have such a dog then be careful of the type of wood that you use. Some woods are naturally resistant to decay and do not need treatment. Your local lumber store will be able to advise you on the best types of wood to use.
